Desert tour FAQs

When is the best time for a Morocco desert tour?

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal, with warm days and pleasant nights. Winter brings cold but beautifully clear nights — perfect for stargazing — while summer is very hot in the Sahara, so we focus on early-morning and late-afternoon dune time.

Are the tours private or group?

Every tour is private by default — your own driver, your own vehicle and your own schedule. Shared group departures can be arranged on request at a lower cost if you prefer to travel with others.

What are the desert camps like?

We offer a range, from comfortable standard camps to luxury camps with private en-suite tents, real beds, hot showers and fine dining. Tell us your comfort level and budget and we'll match you with the right camp.

How long is the camel ride?

Typically around 1 to 1.5 hours into the dunes at sunset, and again at sunrise. If you'd rather not ride, we can arrange a 4x4 transfer to camp instead — just let us know.

Merzouga or Erg Chigaga — which should I choose?

Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) has the iconic tall dunes and is easier to reach, great for 3–5 day trips. Erg Chigaga is wilder and more remote, reached by 4x4 — ideal if you want to feel truly off-grid and away from the crowds.

What should I pack for the desert?

Layers are key: light clothing for the day, a warm layer for cool desert nights, a scarf for sand and sun, comfortable shoes, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle. We'll send a full packing list once your itinerary is set.

Is the desert suitable for kids and seniors?

Yes. We adapt the pace, choose easy-access camps, and can replace the camel ride with a 4x4 transfer where needed. Families and senior travellers enjoy our desert tours regularly — just tell us about your group.

Can the tour end in a different city, like Fes?

Absolutely. Many travellers do a one-way desert crossing ending in Fes instead of returning to Marrakech. We can design the route either way to suit your onward plans.
